May Newsletter from Wisconsin

Survivors at Work The Rose Home is our holistic program designed to fully prepare survivors of sex trafficking to live independently. Workforce preparation is very important to us because a good job is essential to an independent life. It’s why we help survivors build the skills they need to earn a living and follow their dreams. We’re excited to let you know that two of our participants are using their skills at local jobs!   One survivor recently got a job and started training in the end of May. April Newsletter from Wisconsin

April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month. People who experience sexual assault are more vulnerable to become victims of sex trafficking. We care about preventing sexual assault. Change You Can See When we shared how Micah at Northern Tide Tattoo helps survivors of sex trafficking, we were overwhelmed at the response! Every time we meet a survivor with a brand from a trafficker, he offers to cover it with a new tattoo—completely for free. One participant at The Rose Home had a black brand. A Gala to Raise Awareness

On August 30th, we had an amazing night of awareness and education on the issue of sex trafficking in the area of Mobile, Alabama. At the In Her Shoes Gala, 225 people gathered in support of our Rose Center and the subject. With the theme “In Her Shoes,” the night focused on the reality of sex trafficking. Attendees were asked to consider the perspective of survivors and learned it can happen to anyone. We displayed information on the common triggers in South Alabama that may lead people into human trafficking. Poverty. Mobile has a 23% poverty level with 70-80% poverty in single-parent households. Where there is poverty, there are fewer choices. Where there are fewer choices, there is a higher...

With all of the commercialism surrounding Christmas and other winter holidays, it’s easy to forget about the more meaningful parts of the season. Luckily, there’s a way to start off the holiday season while thinking of others: Giving Tuesday. The Tuesday after Black Friday, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving. People around the world donate to charities and nonprofits and support the change makers in their communities. On this Giving Tuesday, we’ll be hosting a free event with a special twist: Thrivent Financial will match all donations we receive that day, up to $10,000! You can make your kindness go twice as far on...
