As a nonprofit, Eye Heart World relies on the community for support. Oftentimes, we act as an instrument through which others can make the changes that they want to see. This is a story where our community really came through to create positive change!
On March 25, Kim’s Tae Kwon Do Center, Inc. held a Tournament, Fundraiser and Board Breaking Marathon to raise money for Eye Heart World. You can find more information on Kim’s Tae Kwon Do Center here.
The students asked family and friends to pledge money, then spent an afternoon demonstrating the skills they’ve been working on, including forms, board breaking and free sparring. Other fundraising efforts at the tournament included a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, and a bake sale. All together, the event raised an outstanding $7,750!
Vandervest Harley-Davidson and The Packerland HOG Chapter were a tremendous help with this event. They donated money, silent auction items, and their time, holding boards and handing out trophies. The unity created by this event showed us how our community truly values the work we do and wants to help us continue.
The Howard-Suamico Bulletin wrote an article about this fundraiser in their June 5, 2017 issue. You can find it online here on page 8. Kim’s Tae Kwon Do Center also posted an article to advertize the fundraising event, which you can find here.
This donation will go a long way at Eye Heart World. We will use the money raised at this event to continue to raise awareness and provide aftercare for sex trafficking survivors. The biggest aftercare project that we’re working on right now is, of course, The Rose Home, which is scheduled to open later this summer. This is an ambitious and expensive goal, but kind, creative efforts like these help us do great things. You can learn more about The Rose Home here.
We at Eye Heart World are truly grateful for the energy and enthusiasm with which Kim’s Tae Kwon Do Center supported us. Our community is made up of some extraordinary individuals, and we are blessed to work side by side with you to create tangible changes.
