Today is a very special day because it marks one year since our very first resident came to the Rose Home! This morning she invited the key staff to the Rose Home (her home) for a little celebration. She wrote us a very thoughtful letter about her time at the home and presented us with some very special gifts that she made herself.
I sat there, admittedly pretty choked up, watching a young lady who walked through that front door with her head hung low from shame and confusion, now standing confident, bold, and full of purpose. This year was hard for her. It was hard for our staff. It was hard for me. But to see this young lady standing free from her traffickers, free from addiction, and free to realize her potential reminded me just how truly special this place really is.
I’ll admit, this has been one of the craziest, hardest years of my life. But today made sense of the chaos. This year we have seen really high highs, really low lows, and everything in between. But this morning reminded me that the work that we are accomplishing together is LITERALLY saving the lives of young ladies who have absolutely nowhere else to turn. But this work is not just saving them from their situations, it is empowering them to live full, independent lives. We’ve already seen our residents go on to get jobs and receive multiple promotions, regain custody of their children, face their traffickers and exploiters in court, and the list goes on.
"But to see this young lady standing free from her traffickers, free from addiction, and free to realize her potential reminded me just how truly special this place really is."
So yes, this year has been wrought with challenges. But the difficulties, frustrations, and tears have been matched and surpassed by joy, laughter, and miracle upon miracle. This is hard work, but to see the fruit of that work become reality is what it’s all about.
Thank you for being on this journey with us. Together, we are seeing the impossible become a reality. So cheers to this year and the many more to come!
